What is the 2020 Census?

Every ten years, our country counts every individual living in the United States. This count provides the basis for creating additional congressional seats to represent growing populations, information used to draw boundaries for state and federal representatives, and distributing more than $675 billion in federal funds to support vital programs that impact housing, public education, transportation, employment, health care and public policy. Collin County is one of the fastest growing areas in the entire country so it is more important than ever that we count everyone!

The Census Bureau is responding to COVID-19 with operational adjustments. Read about them here.

Your reply is essential!

See How the Census will Invite you to Respond

The census bureau will provide you with numerous opportunities to respond, beginning with a mailer that you may either fill out and return in the mail or through a secure website.  If you don’t respond to the mail questionnaire, the bureau will follow up with phone calls and then, ultimately, a census worker will come to your home in person to ensure you complete your questionnaire.  Fill it out early when it comes in the mail and skip the hassle!

Census Timing

Due to the current COVID-19 out-break, the U.S. Census Bureau is taking extra precautions to protect the health and safety of Census Bureau workers and the American public. The timeline has been adjusted to encourage people to respond online, over the phone or through the mail. Follow along with the latest COVID-19 updates from the Census here.
